Starting Sept 5, Common Ground Theatre in Durham will present Eric Bogosian's
monologue series "Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll".   This production brings
together local theatre and music in this daring and raucous collection of
monologues with live rock n roll.

Funny, fascinating, edgy and provocative, Bogosian’s collection of losers
from all levels of society takes us deep into the arid, pitted landscape of
their individual worlds. Intense, but often subtle, and hilarious, here is a
perceptive view of a society without moorings from the playwright and
bestselling author who brought us “suburbia” and “Talk Radio.”

The cast of “Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll” will feature company members Jeff
Alguire & Rus Hames, with guest artists Tony Hughes & Lormarev Jones. Company
member Rus Hames directs.

In addition, each night the cast will be joined on stage by a different
Triangle area rock & roll band!

This is a really enjoyable read, and not just because of all the
amusing-to-Yanks UK-speak in it:

http://www.musicthinktank.com/blog/please-buy-my-record-the-futility-of-flogging-music.html

Most of the fun is in the reading, but if you're the type who requires
an executive summary (Oh, so now we're an executive, are we?), here's one:

Back before Teh Internets, the author's band(s) tried & tried & failed &
failed to sell more than a handful of records. Now that we have Teh
Internets, the author is acutely aware that hundreds, perhaps even
thousands of people have listened to his music, but still nobody's
buying. And after some small amount of reflection, he's concluded that
it's OK, being a musician is still better than *not* being a musician.

But imagine it in a Welsh accent.

xo
