Saturday, June 21
Annuals (http://www.myspace.com/annuals)
Lonnie Walker (http://www.myspace.com/lonniewalker)
ArtsCenter, Carrboro

Saturday, June 21
The Old Ceremony (http://www.theoldceremony.com/)
Max Indian (http://www.myspace.com/maxindian)
Pour House, Raleigh

Saturday, June 21
Joe Romeo & the Orange County Volunteers (http://www.myspace.com/joeromeomusic)
Rosewater Secession
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Saturday, June 21
Milemarker (http://stickfiguredistro.com/milemarker)
Fin Fang Foom (http://www.lovitt.com/artists/finfangfoom.html)
Bellafea (http://www.bellafea.com/)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Now that Fin Fang Foom bassist Eddie Sanchez is pulling double-duty in Bellafea, his cruciality is even more apparent. Bellafea are about 400x bigger as a three-piece than they were as a duo.

The capsule history of Milemarker is available at their website (http://www.milemarker.org/) . . . for those of you who already know it or are too lazy to click, the important tidbits are:

* original (Year Zero) lineup (Laney, Burian, Davis), with the addition of my favorite Milltown bartender/drummer/rapper John Bowman.
* This is a single US warmup show before a 2-week European tour

Saturday, June 21
The Ts (http://www.myspace.com/thettttt)
The Names
Summers of Amber
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Sunday, June 22
Wigg Report (http://www.synchronizedswim.org)
Beloved Binge (http://www.myspace.com/belovedbinge)
Sequoya (http://www.myspace.com/sequoya)
Resist Not (http://myspace.com/resistnot)
Virgo 9 (http://www.myspace.com/thevirgonine)
Central Park, Durham

This is an afternoon picnic/rockshow in Durham Central Park (where the Durham Farmer's Market is). In addition to the fine Durham bands listed above, Sawteeth McTweedy, Sugar in the Dirt and Shana Scudder are also on the lineup. Should run from ~ 2:00 p.m. til ~ 7:00.

Sunday, June 22
Portastatic (http://www.portastatic.com)
Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Durham

Duke Performances continues its push into the wider music world with a series of outdoor shows at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, featuring a wide range of NC-connected groups. Tonight it's Portastatic; future shows include Bowerbirds & Les Savy Fav, but also eastern-NC brother-harmony country, western-NC Sacred Steel, oldschool black a-capella gospel, and the Madison Elites, Durham representatives of the United House of Prayer for All People Shout Band tradition.

Shows start at 7:00, and all but the Les Savy Fav are at Duke Gardens on Sunday evenings throughout the summer.

Sunday, June 22
Pontiak (http://www.myspace.com/pontiak)
Wye Oak (http://www.myspace.com/wyeoak)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Monday, June 23
Cantwell, Gomez, Jordan (http://www.cantwellgomezandjordan.com)
Fortress of Swatches (http://www.purevolume.com/fortressofswatches)
El Ten Eleven (http://www.myspace.com/elteneleven)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Tuesday, June 24
Beloved Binge (http://www.myspace.com/belovedbinge)
Dry Heathens (http://www.myspace.com/dryheathens)
Starmount (http://www.myspace.com/starmountmusic)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

This is another in the Cradle's "The Club is Open" free local-music series. Dry Heathens make (naturally) pissed-off/bitter sounding indie-rock. Beloved Binge are a gtr/drums duo who begin with a Pacific Northwest/K-Records vibe, but then they add weird layers & time-changes to mix it up. They're getting ready to take off on a yearlong tour, playing shows & showing Eleni's veganism documentary.

Starmount are a new-ish Raleigh band, and all I know is that Greg Elkins is involved, and my friend Erin raves about them.

Tuesday, June 24
Sharron Kraus (http://www.sharronkraus.com/)
United Bible Studies (http://www.myspace.com/unitedbiblestudies)
Jenks Miller (http://www.myspace.com/horsebacknoise)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

This is a CD-release show for Jenks Miller's new solo CD, "Approaching the Invisible Mountain," which is a beautiful set of solo electric guitar pieces that might remind you of John Fahey, but remind me most of Neil Young's Dead Man soundtrack.

Tuesday, June 24
Scarlet Rider (http://www.myspace.com/thescarletrider)
Devon Williams (http://www.myspace.com/devonwilliams)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Wednesday, June 25
Promute (http://www.promute.com/)
Tone Ghosting (http://www.toneghosting.com/)
Darktide
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Wednesday, June 25
The Never (http://www.trekkyrecords.com/never.html)
I Was Totally Destroying It (http://www.reverbnation.com/iwastotallydestroyingit)
Soft Company (http://www.myspace.com/softcompany)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

IWTDI and The Never are both young-ish pop/rock bands, featuring kids who've been playing music since they were old enough to pull up on the floor tom.

Soft Company are older and crankier & weirder, like early Roxy Music with a country twang.

Thursday, June 26
Dom Casual (http://www.myspace.com/domcasual)
Shipwrecker (http://www.myspace.com/shipwreckermuzak)
CCB Plaza (aka The Bull's Balls), Durham

Dom Casual's Jamie McLendon and Shipwrecker's Maria Brubeck ran off & got married a few weeks ago, so this is a combination evening outdoor show & wedding reception. They're pretty much the cutest couple EVAR, so stop by & gawk/say hi, and have a Locopop.

Thursday, June 26
The Loners (http://www.demonbeachrecords.com/loners.html)
Tir Na Nog, Raleigh

This is part of Tir Na nOg's Local Beers, Local Bands series.

Thursday, June 26
Russian Circles (http://www.myspace.com/russiancircles)
Daughters (http://www.myspace.com/daughters1)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Daughters are from Providence, and the snippet I heard sounded like David Yow fronting Ex Models.

Thursday, June 26
Dirty Little Heaters (http://www.thedirtylittleheaters.com)
The Here We Go Boys (http://myspace.com/theherewegoboys)
Reservoir, Carrboro

The Here We Go Boys sounded, on their MySpace, like rowdy Avetts-style bluegrass. Dirty Little Heaters are also rowdy, but I shudder to think what they'd do with a banjo.

Friday, June 27
Dexter Romweber and the New Romans (http://www.myspace.com/dexterromweber)
Rat Jackson (http://www.myspace.com/ratjacksonmusic)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Dex's New Romans are his large (gtrs, drums, horns, keys) band.

Friday, June 27
Dry Heathens (http://www.myspace.com/dryheathens)
Grappling Hook (http://www.myspace.com/torchmaraudersgrapplinghook)
Double Down, Raleigh

Durham invades Raleigh for the night. The Grappling Hook played BCHQ last week & Dave nearly took out half the crowd when he started swinging a real live grappling hook around his head.

Friday, June 27
Opening Flower Happy Bird (http://www.myspace.com/openingflowerhappybird)
The New Sound of Numbers (http://www.thenewsoundofnumbers.com/)

Jack Sprat Cafe, Chapel Hill

Friday, June 27

Reservoir, Carrboro

Saturday, June 28
Jokes & Jokes & Jokes (http://www.myspace.com/jokesjokesjokes)
The Alcazar Hotel (http://www.myspace.com/thealcazarhotel)
Mobley (http://www.myspace.com/mobleyband)
Hell, Chapel Hill

Sunday, June 29
Bowerbirds (http://www.bowerbirds.org)
Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Durham

Another in the Duke Performances series of NC artists playing in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens. If you haven't seen Bowerbirds in a while, perhaps you've forgotten how great they are. Bring a picnic; it starts at 7:00.

Sunday, June 29
Flicker (http://www.chapel-hill.nc.us/flicker)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

This is the "Attack of the 50-foot Reels" version of Flicker, wherein intrepid local filmmakers show off the results of a single day spent writing & shooting a short film on a single reel of Super-8 film, with only in-camera editing (i.e. you shoot in sequence, and every shot counts).

Sunday, June 29
Like Hell I Will
Monikers (http://www.myspace.com/monikers)
The Crumbs (http://www.recessrecords.com/pages/crumbs.html)
The Begin-Agains (http://www.myspace.com/thebeginagains)
Bull City Headquarters, Durham

Sunday, June 29
Savage Knights (http://www.retroactivedynamics.com)
Silver Apples (http://www.myspace.com/sapples)
Loto Ball Show (http://www.myspace.com/lotoballshow)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

I saw Silver Apples at the Cradle back in the '90s sometime, long before Simeon broke his neck in the car wreck. It was a damn weird show then. I can only try to imagine what it'll be like now.

Sunday, June 29
Lonely H.
Sikamor Rooney
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Monday, June 30
Spider Bags (http://www.myspace.com/spiderbags)
King Khan and the Shrines (http://www.myspace.com/kingkhantheshrines)
Local 506, Chapel Hill
