KNIT KNIT
SUNDAY DECEMBER 1 @ 3pm (NEW DAY & TIME!!)
We're proud to be hosting Sabrina Gschwandtner of KnitKnit magazine
she has a new book out this fall, KnitKnit: Profiles + Projects from
Knitting's New Wave. Join us for a discussion and demonstration. The
book profiles 27 of the most talented artist-crafters knitting today.
All over North America and Europe, a brand-new generation has taken up
knitting and is transforming the venerable needlecraft by blurring the
boundary between craft and art. In Copenhagen, Denmark, Isabel
Berglund hand-knit an entire room. In New England, Dave Cole
constructed an enormous knitting machine (he used excavators and
utility poles) that knit an 800-stitch, 35-by-20-foot American flag.
But the projects aren't all of a monumental scale. In Los Angeles,
Bridget Marrin knits little dollhouses complete with lawns, shrubbery,
and smoke-filled chimneys, all made of yarn. Using surgical wire,
Indiana-based knitter Althea Merback hand-knits sweaters smaller than
a dime.

SUDAN FILM FUNDRAISER at 7pm

Sudan. More information coming soon.

MAD BOMBER MELVILLE
Leslie James Pickering
Saturday, December 15 @ 6pm
Join us for Leslie James Pickering's latest book release, Mad Bomber
Melville, the long overdue biography of Samuel Melville, a white,
working class revolutionary. His guerrilla bombings of Manhattan
skyscrapers, housing government and corporate offices driving the
Vietnam War, set in motion a flood of armed revolutionary actions in
the United States during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Once
imprisoned, Melville became a key organizer and a crucial element of
the notorious Attica Prison rebellion, uniting prisoners across racial
barriers and making the ultimate sacrifice for revolutionary change.
Mad Bomber Melville traces Sam Melville s short life and rapid
political development, highlighting a much-needed example of an
undying and uncompromising struggle for justice and liberation.
