Midtown Dickens (http://www.myspace.com/midtowndickens)

OTR are a sort of demented rant-n-rave freakshow from Portland. Midtown Dickens are also pretty damn demented, but in a way that's almost diametrically opposed to the dementia of OTR. Will they amplify, or cancel one another out?

Friday, November 2
The Cartridge Family (http://www.cartridge-family.com/)
Hank Sinatra (http://www.hank-sinatra.com/)
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

This is a CD release party for the long-anticipated 2nd CD from Raleigh's Cartridge Family, who are happily working the dirty intersection where the Stones and the NY Dolls intersect.

Bellafea (http://www.bellafea.com/)
Opening Flower Happy Bird (http://www.myspace.com/openingflowerhappybird)

On The Take (http://www.myspace.com/onthetakeband)
Bull City Headquarters, Durham

This is the Giant Grand Finale of the Troika Music Festival <http://www.troikamusicfestival.org>, which as always involves Too Many Bands in one long all-day endurance-test shmear. At least now it's in late October & thus it won't be 4000 degrees at BCHQ. And you will get to see an assload of great bands (albeit tempered by an equal number of less-than-great ones, and you gotta pick which are which):

The Everybodyfields 11:00 pm
Bodies of Water 10:00 pm

Monday, November 5
The Physics of Meaning (http://www.thephysicsofmeaning.com/)
Duke Coffeehouse, Durham

This is part of a series in which you get a movie *and* a band for one low price. Tonight's movie: "The Princess Bride." If I were Physics of Meaning, I'd be scared to try to follow that one.

Monday, November 5
Maria Taylor (http://www.saddle-creek.com/bands/mariataylor/)
Eric Bachmann (http://www.ericbachmann.com/)
Josh Ritter
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Eric Bachmann has finally lately stepped out from behind the Crooked Fingers mask & released his first "solo" album (this after multiple Barry Black & Crooked Fingers albums on which he did pretty much everything). He recorded this solo album in a motel room on the Outer Banks. It's a bit more stripped-down than the Crooked Fingers stuff, so depending on how you feel about that . . .

Maria Taylor was in Azure Ray, who were totally captivating the one time I saw them at Go! Studios, 100 years ago.

Monday, November 5
The New Sound of Numbers (http://www.thenewsoundofnumbers.com/)
Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies (http://www.myspace.com/violetvectorandthelovelylovelies)
Pylon (http://www.myspace.com/wearepylon)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Yes, it's the Pylon, from Athens, from the 80s.
