If you like metal and academic discussions of recording technology, then boy
have we got a night for you on 89.3.
At 8pm, on the Backyard Bar-B-Q, Chapel Hill's Black Skies take to the
airwaves with music that is both heavy and metal. We'll also talk with the
band and play some good local records.
At 9pm:
Mark Katz, UNC-CH professor of music, will discuss his 2004 book "Capturing
Sound" as well as his current project on turntablism and DJing. In
"Capturing Sound," Professor Katz discusses "how and why recordings, from
Schubert to Public Enemy, influence musical life and how technology, from
the phonograph to the mp3, has turned the musical world on its ear."
Listener phone calls will be encouraged during the hour-long interview.
