Saxapahaw Rivermill Farmers' Market & Music Series -
Saturdays in Saxaphaw - July 7th, 2007 Market 5-8 pm Music 6-8pm
This week on the haywagon stage it's
THE MAUDLIN BROTHERS
As put by A.V. Shirk in The Old-Time Herald, "There's a gutsy exuberance in the way the Maudlin Brothers dig into a song. ... The music of this stringband is drawn from a variety of sources and includes old-time country, early bluegrass, and sacred songs. The heart of the Maudlin Brothers' music is in the singing - heartfelt, enthusiastic solos supported by good harmony vocals. But it is the blend of the singing with Jon Newlin's fiddle that creates much of the sound of the Maudlin Brothers' music. ... These are not polished performances with smooth seamless harmonies. The Maudlin Brothers' music is more like split rail fences than even, carfully aligned, picket fences." Don't Miss Them!!!!
At the Farmers' Market, Eco-Farm has joined in with great produce and ready-to-eat delicious goods like vegetarian "meat" balls, bean salad, potato salad, hummus and bread, garlic dip and bread, peanut butter and honey sandwiches, rice pudding. We've got FLOWERS- FLOWERS- FLOWERS, strawberries, heirloom pork, cheese, foccacia, cookies, breads, and treats, eggs, fresh veggies and produce and delicious jellies, chutneys, honey and more! The Barbecue Joint has set up shop and will be with us EVERY WEEK this summer selling a wide variety of dinners including vegetarian options AND this year we have a growing artisan market with beautiful handcrafted items including a new toymaker with great stuffies for kids, pottery, jewelry, wooden toys, birdhouses and furniture.
AND THE RIDES ARE BACK!! CERES will be setting up exciting events and activities for children including the Famous Zipboat ( a kayak on a zipline - low to the ground) the Environmentally Engineered Slip-N-Slide, created in the shape of the Haw River this year complete with tributaries, a new children's musical village, face painting, children's arts & crafts. The weekly kid's parade is just wonderful as the kids travel across the hills humming tunes and laughing it up! Children's Activities made possible by www.Bioallies.com
Festivities take place in central Saxapahaw next to the Post Office and across from the Saxapahaw Rivermill every Saturday from 5pm-8pm through the end of August. Admission is free though donations are appreciated, organizers pass around a "Swan Bucket" each week for the band.
