We need your help!
Internationalist Books needs your support to keep our store and community space alive. Throughout May and June, we’re having plenty of fun events at various locations. Stop by and support Internationalist Books – and have a good time doing it! With your help, we’ve stayed around for 26 years – with your continued help, Internationalist Books will be around for many more years!

Marxism is back!
Check out our new collection of Marxist, socialist, and communist texts! They’re an amazing collection of theory.

SATURDAY 12 MAY @ 7PM-10PM
PHIL BLANK AT THE CARRBORO GREENSPACE
Stop by the Carrboro Greenspace and listen to Phil Blank play and enjoy good times had by all. Or come early for Carolina Consulta (see information below) and stay after for a good party. Again, proceeds from the show go directly to Internationalist Books.

THURSDAY 17 MAY @ 7PM
MIKE PALACEK – THE AMERICAN DREAM
Inspired by Jesuit peace activist Daniel Berrigan, Mike Palecek began his own life long resistance against what Berrigan calls the "American military imperialism." His life of civil disobedience, led Palecek to choose the novel as his main weapon against a government he considers toxic to its people. Satire, fiction and journalism are his primary tools for social change. Palecek’s newest book joins the chorus of journalists, writers and plain old folk who are pleading for us all to WAKE UP

MONDAY 21 MAY @ 7PM
DAVID ROSE – BIG EDDY CLUB
David Rose is an award-winning contributing editor at Vanity Fair and has worked for The Guardian, The Observer, and the BBC. He is the author of five previous books, including Guantánamo. The Big Eddy Club is a thorough and intriguing ten year exploration of facts surrounding the arrest of African-American Carlton Gary for the horrific 1970s murders of seven elderly white women. Though there is much to argue that Gary is the victim of a criminal justice system manipulated to deny him due process, he remains on death row.

FRIDAY 01 JUNE @ 10PM
DRAG SHOW AT BLEND

AUDACIA RAY – NAKED ON THE INTERNET
Naked on the Internet: Hookups, Downloads, and Cashing In on Internet Sexploation (Seal Press, June 1, 2007)
Few things are more misunderstood and cause more fear and suspicion than the combination of female sexuality and the Internet. Naked on the Internet explores how women use cyberspace, personally and professionally, to learn about themselves, connect with others, and make a living. Author Audacia Ray then goes further, examining the Internet as a valuable — though often problematic — sexual space. Ray combines her insider's knowledge with the voices of a variety of women whose firsthand experiences include camming, chatting, and making websites; dating, hooking up, and forming friendships; sex and relationship blogging; and making porn and doing other forms of sex work. She also examines the power of sexual health and online support communities and the technology that enables physical sexual encounters.
Naked on the Internet is a guide to the ways women use, experience, and cash in on the Internet, as well as a critical analysis of the empowering and oppressive aspects of women's online experiences.

And support our friends, too! Here are some other upcoming events that we think you should check out as well:

Come to the Carolinas Consulta, May 12-13 in Chapel Hill, NC, to discuss and make plans for the upcoming Democratic and Republican National Conventions (in the summer of 2008), because it is essential to go into these protests with a well developed and widely known strategy. Also, this will be great place to meet like-minded people from across the carolinas, and to share information with each other about the campaigns, community organizing, mutual aid projects, and actions we are currently involved with across the states. plus games, food, movies, direct action skill sharing, and more!
PLEASE RSVP soon! It will help us with housing and food logistics, etc. You can reach us at unconventional_action AT mountainrebel.net . Please let us know if you have any special housing or food needs! Housing will be provided (some of which will be camping) on friday and saturday nights. Meet up at Internationalist Bookstore--405 W. Franklin St--for housing information and directions on Fri. May 11th from 1-8pm. Or you can contact us to work out an alternate time.
