chris, i've heard people putting one of those non-static sheets like
you put in your drier under the pickguard and it defeats this effect,
ie. it eliminates static. there's some kind of shielding problem the
way that sounds. i've seen some pickguards have some kind of foil
under the pickguard (they arrived like that stock if i recall).
otherwise, try that non-static sheet and see if that helps.
