*TONIGHT* - ANTI-MINUTEMAN CONVERGENCE in GREENSBORO, 7pm (MARKET ST & EUGENE ST)

STAND UP AGAINST RACISM! STAND UP FOR IMMIGRANTS RIGHTS! Please join us and help us tell the racist Minutemen they are not welcome in North Carolina!!! Tonight, May 10th, at 7pm. Market St. & Eugene St.

The Minutemen Project is a right-wing, anti-immigrant vigilante group, originally from Arizona and California, but rapidly expanding across the country. Gangs of Minutemen have conducted armed patrols along the US-Mexico border, making crossing the border even more dangerous. The Minutemen are a thoroughly racist organization, and their contempt for immigrants has attracted members of other far-right organizations (like the neo-Nazi National Alliance) to join their ranks. Their stop in Greensboro is part of the Minutemen Caravan, which started in L.A. and is stopping in many U.S. cities on its way to Washington, DC. They are targeting cities with large immigrant populations, and they are coming to intimidate immigrant communities. The Minutemen Caravan will be meeting in Greensboro at 7 pm on May 10. We will converge to counter their hatred! We stand opposed to anti-immigrant hate, and we support immigrants’ rights!

PLEASE NOTE:
There will be legal observers on hand at this event to make sure that our security and rights are protected. This is being planned as a peaceful and permitted rally.

MONDAY, MAY 22 -- READING: MICHELLE TEA @ NIGHTLIGHT, 7pm

Prolific author/performer Michelle Tea has spilled her guts all across this country, ever ready to confess her crimes, confusions, and caprices. She's bled her heart out in memoirs such as The Passionate Mistakes and Intricate Corruption of One Girl in America, the graphic
novel Rent Girl, and the Lambda-award winning Valencia; she's spewed
her spleen on tour with both Sister Spit, a self-organized traveling
spoken word extravaganza of women who have somethin' to say, and the
Sex Worker's Art Show, which creatively explores the politics of the
sex-industry; and she's coughed up more than a few intellectual hairballs editing books such as Without A Net: The Female Experience of
Growing Up Working Class, and writing essays on everything from class
to food to sex. In the process she's become one of America's most loved queer subcultural icons. Don't miss her reading from her latest novel "Rose of No Man's Land". Monday, May 22nd at 7pm at the Nightlight in Chapel Hill (405 1/2 Rosemary St, Chapel Hill).

*WHAT IS PRISON BOOKS*

The Prison Books Collective is a new prisoner support group forming in
the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. Like the dozens of other similar groups
around the country, it will provide thousands of free books, at request,
to prisoners throught the southeast. By providing educational,
political and legal resources, we can support people behind bars, show
solidarity with their struggles, and fight against the alienating and
destructive effects of the US prison system.

But we need your help! We currently have a space to work out of, but
are in need of books and money for shipping. We're also going to need
lots of eager volunteers to help package and mail books. If you would
like to help organize or support this great project please go to
www.prisonbooks.info.
