I'm slowly adding video of local bands to trianglerock.com. I haven't
integrated it into the base site interface yet, so there's just a list
at http://www.trianglerock.com/video/

If you see yourself up there & can't stand it, I'll probably be happy to
take yr video down, although I have to say, I've been doing research
into the show-attendance habits of 25-to-40-year-old college-radio DJs
lately (and yes, in any other town that would be an oxymoron, but not
here!), and I gotta tell you, even this most indie-rock-obsessed
subgroup of locals aren't exactly breaking any show-attendance records.
We're old, we're tired, we have day-jobs, we don't like the smoke, etc.
It all adds up to an average attendance rate of one show per month. And
your show ain't it, buddy. It may be video-or-nothing.

Onward:

Friday, February 10
Blackstrap [http://blackstrap.org], Red Smokes White
[http://www.myspace.com/redsmokeswhite]
Joe & Jo's, Durham

This is Blackstrap's first show since last summer, and their first
with new bassist Dave Perry (Jett Rink, ex-Fake Swedish). Blackstrap
you know; they make bratty early-80s-retro Cali-style punk. Red Smokes
White make moody jivey smoky gtr+bass+sax movie-soundtrack music, or
at least that's what MySpace is leading me to believe at present.

Friday, February 10
Jule Brown [http://www.julebrown.org]
Fuse, Chapel Hill

Friday, February 10
Cantwell, Gomez, Jordan [http://www.cantwellgomezandjordan.com],
Orthrelm, Pykrete [http://www.bullfightparty.org/cirox/pykrete],
Calabi Yau [http://www.calabiyau.com/], Boyzone
[http://kodakculture.org/katherine/boyszone]
Wetlands, Chapel Hill

Orthrelm = DC gtr/drums duo making crazy spazzy endlessly-repeating
freakout-OCD-metal, or something. Calabi Yau = bastard children of
Primus & Naked City. Cantwell Gomez Jordan = someone finally figured
out how to make yr nervous twitch "rock". Pykrete = Chuck Johnson
making laptop click-click-buzz. Boyzone = get naked & roll around on
the floor.

Friday, February 10
Another Tombstone Dream, The Miss Fits
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Yes Virginia, the Miss Fits are an all-woman Misfits tribute.

Saturday, February 11
Mudboy [http://www.mudboymusic.com ], Yomul Yuk
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Nightlight sez:

"Providence black magic! Mudboy's distinctively occult vibe transforms
venues into sets from an 70s horror film. Wolves howl, incense is
burned, disembodied vox and eerie repetitive organ lines slowly creep
into the mix. A recommended live show! Also along for the ride are
some Canadian puppeteers/noisemakers."

Saturday, February 11
Cantwell, Gomez, Jordan [http://www.cantwellgomezandjordan.com], Eyes
to Space [http://www.eyestospace.net/], Kolyma
[http://www.myspace.com/kolyma]
Duke Coffeehouse, Durham

This is a Ms. Films benefit. Kolyma are from Raleigh & make heavy
freakout rock with a whole lotta ranting overtop. Cantwell Gomez &
Jordan are my favorite band. Eyes to Space are nerds who play synths
(not to be confused with synth-nerds).

Saturday, February 11
The Rachel Nevadas [http://www.therachelnevadas.com/], Bibis Ellison
[http://bibisellison.elektrikcoma.com/], The Old Ceremony
[http://www.theoldceremony.com/]
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Sunday, February 12
Tiger Bear Wolf
WXDU 88.7 FM, Durham

Tiger Bear Wolf are from Greensboro. There is a fairly long-running
tradition in Greensboro of making hyper/heavy running-headlong
post-emo guitar-rock, and Tiger Bear Wolf are the current masters of
that particular subgenre. Two vocalists, one doing the screamo and the
other sounding like Lemmy, plus ex-Strunken White guitarist Noah
Howard.

5:00 p.m. 88.7FM or www.wxdu.org.

Monday, February 13
The Fiery Furnaces [http://thefieryfurnaces.com/], Deadboy & the
Elephantmen [http://www.deadboyandtheelephantmen.com]
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

The Fiery Furnaces did pretty much this exact thing when I saw them
at the Cradle last year: http://www.pancakemountain.com/clip07.html

Tuesday, February 14
Billy Sugarfix [http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/billysugarfix.htm],
Shannon O'Connor, Pox Family Singers [http://www.poxworldempire.com]
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Tuesday, February 14
Polynya [http://home.mindspring.com/~polynya/index.html], Veronique
Diabolique [http://www.veroniquediabolique.com/], Dirty Little Heaters
[http://www.thedirtylittleheaters.com]
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Who else on Valentines Day but Veronique Diabolique, those
French-speaking Goths from Durham, with their platforms and fishnets
and patent-leather strappy things? And those are just the boys . . .

Dirty Little Heaters are a whole lot rawer than that; they're just
Melissa's drums & Reese's guitar, plus Reese's intense blues-shouter
bellow. ([http://www.trianglerock.com/video/dlh-cherryvan-2.avi] video
here).

I thought Polynya were changing their name, but mebbe they're still
looking for suggestions.

Wednesday, February 15
Love Hangover
Kings, Raleigh

Kings sez, of this annual tradition:

"Aimee Argote (Des Ark) & Daniel Hart(Physics of Meaning)
Alysse Cullinan (Death & Taxes (of Richmond)) & Craig Tilley (Birds of
Avalon)
Katrina Lamberto (ex-The Ready Set) & Joey Fralin
Lynda Wittig Dawson(The Kickin Grass Band) & Nathan Brown (Regina
Hexaphone)
Staci Sawyer(Walking Running) & Nathan Golub (Cadillac Stepbacks;
Fontana)

Love Hangover: Love lost, love found, love in limbo...the 7th Annual
Love Hangover show at Kings Barcade on Wednesday, February 15 will
feature local musician and vocalist boy/girl duos covering all affairs
of the heart.

A Post Valentine's night of bittersweet not to be missed. *Music
starts promptly at 9:30 pm! (really)"

Wednesday, February 15
A Rooster for the Masses
[http://www.myspace.com/aroosterforthemasses], We Are Ex-Lovers
[http://www.myspace.com/exlovers], Sound Team
[http://www.soundteam.net/]
Local 506, Chapel Hill

We Are Ex-Lovers are a three-piece from Durham (including ex-Sorry
About Dresden/soon-to-be-Swiss bassist Matt Tomich) who switch up on
keyb/gtr/drums to make their synthy twee-pop. A Rooster for the Masses
are a mix of old- and new-school Raleighites busting out the crazy
pulsating disco-fied indie-dance-rock.
