Hey y'all,
We're likely about to be inundated with crossposted crap from tri.gen & various other NGs due to the handiwork of a troll who still, in 2006, thinks it's really funny to cross-post & troll on UseNet. Har de har har, let's all laugh like it's 1993.
Due to the glory that is UseNet, it's impossible to control who posts/crossposts to alt.music.chapel-hill; what we *can* control is our response, or lack thereof. So just be aware that any "debate" that suddenly appears to start to rage about UNC tuition & etc isn't a debate at all; it's just a good old-fashioned substanceless UseNet flamewar. If you're reading alt.music.chapel-hill via Google Groups or via some direct UseNet method, feel free to respond to the trolls if that's the sort of futile entertainment that gets you off, but please, ONLY if you first edit the headers so as to remove alt.music.chapel-hill from them. [conversely, I suppose if you have a genuinely intelligent point to make, you could edit the headers to remove all the other newsgroups *except* alt.music.chapel-hill -- it's really just the crossposting that guarantees trouble of the headachey no-fun variety]
If you're reading via the ch-scene email list and some of the crap seeps through, please try to sit on your hands [This means You, Hepler], as I *do* have some small amount of control over what gets posted to the email list. I don't generally exercise that control, other than to filter out the vast quantities of herbal viagra spam & whatnot, but I will enforce our longstanding rule against crossposting to triangle.general. There's no joy to be had there, people.
If you don't believe me, go read some: http://groups.google.com/group/triangle.general
Holy crap, look at that, G___ L B______ still exists!
Ross
