Downtown Durham's *Blayloc Cafe*, which has quickly developed into the
hottest new music venue in town, will host four hot musical acts on
*Saturday, January 21st*. *Starting at 9 pm*, the show will feature an
eclectic mix of metal, pop, rock, and everything in between. Playing
will be *Viva La Venus*, *Junior Varsity* *Superheroes*, *The Experts*,
and *Red Collar*.

*Viva la Venus* is a four-piece touring and recording act from North
Carolina. The live show combines powerful vocal harmonies with the
gritty chug of guitars along with a sexy stage presence, taking the
audience on a musical rollercoaster ride. Along with being featured on
*The Tonight Show with Jay Leno* and Raleigh's *Live and Local TV*, the
track "Mystery" was featured in two episodes of the cable television
series, *Strong Medicine*, on the Lifetime Network. The debut CD
release, *The Never Ending Mending Story* (Shiny Pants Records), has
received wide critical acclaim. The second release, *Forget the Fairy
Tale* was released in 2005 and is available online at CDBaby.com
<http://www.cdbaby.com/vivalavenus2> and for download from iTunes
<http://www.itunes.com/>, Napster and other major electronic music
distributors.

The *Junior Varsity Superheroes* sound like a combination of the
eighties genres of their youth. After playing their first show at the
Brewery in June, 2005, they have permeated dozens of venues throughout
the Triangle with an irresistible urge to dance, playing in several
regional musical festivals along the way. Their sound blends hair band
rock ballads, synth-heavy disco beats, and stomping punk boleros. The
Superheroes’ first full-length album */Thursday Night Game/* is set to
release later this spring.

*The Experts* combine explosive rhythms, dazzling harmonies and
wailing,
melodic guitar with a touch of humor --catchy enough to win the crowd’s
favor, but intelligent enough to earn its respect. They have drawn
comparisons to the likes of Elvis Costello, Cheap Trick, early Wilco,
and the Replacements. Count on the Experts to crank out plenty of
super-polished 3-minute rock gems that leave the audience energized and
buying alcohol.

*Red Collar *is a four-piece band centered around the Kutchma
husband-wife team of Jason on guitar and Beth Ann on bass. Their name
comes from their proud identity as “red collar” workers, neither white
nor blue-collar but somewhere in the IT wasteland where work means
web-surfing and downloading music. Red Collar has started creating
reverberations in Durham’s music scene, particularly after a very
memorable performance in the Troika Music Festival.

With a cover charge of only $5, affordable drink prices, and delicious
late-night food options, Blayloc Café is the perfect place to get your
rock and roll fix. Durham’s downtownistas should prepare themselves for
what will be a decisive moment in the revitalization of the Bull City’s
music scene.
