*TONIGHT* WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26 - REPORT BACK FROM VENEZUELA, 7pm

What is happening in Venezuela? Come hear an eyewitness report from
three Triangle activists who visited Venezuela this summer and attended
the World Youth Festival there. While in Venezuela, they spoke to a
variety of people about the Bolivarian Revolution led by Hugo Chavez's
government, the changes underway as a result, and attempts by the US to
disrupt the revolution. Tonight, at 7pm, they will share what
they heard.

*WEDNESDAYS, NOVEMBER 9, 16, 30 - 'SEARCHING FOR RADICAL IDEAS?' SERIES WITH PROFESSOR WILLIAM MANSON @ IBOOKS, 6:30pm*

Internationalist Books is proud to announce a series of informal talks by radical philosopher/anthropologist William Manson held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm throughout the month of November. Activists often seek a greater understanding of radical theory and these discussions seek to enlighten those who are looking to broaden their base of knowledge.

November 9 -- THE PSYCHOLOGY OF "FASCISM": What is authoritarian narcissism, and how does it impact racist imperialism and military-industrialism?

November 16 -- GREEN ANARCHISM: What is green anarchism and its related ideas of neo-Luddism, radical ecology, and ecopsychology?

November 30 -- REVIVING RADICAL HUMANISM: Discussing universal rights and liberties. "The free development of each is based on the free developing of all."

William Manson (Ph.D., Columbia) has written books and articles on psychoanalytic anthropology and social theory. For many years an adjunct professor at Rutgers and Columbia, he is now teaching such courses as "Dissent & Integrity" and "Technology in Question" at Duke's Continuing Studies.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17 - “LOST VOICES OF THE AFRO-CELTS" @ THE TOY
LOUNGE, DEY HALL, UNC-CH, 3:30pm

“Lost Voices of the Afro-Celts”, in the Centering the American South
lecture series of the Center for the Study of the American South at the
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. This lecture will explore
some of the forgotten connections between African-Americans and Scottish
Highlanders and remind us of the rich cultural interactions between
people of all ethnic origins in our complex nation. Lecturer Dr Michael
Newton has a PhD in Celtic Studies from the University of Edinburgh. He
has written several books and numerous articles on Highland history and
tradition, and has become the leading scholar on the culture and history
of immigrant Highland communities in the United States. He is a fluent
Gaelic speaker, a proponent of Highland song and dance, and a published
creative writer in the Gaelic language.
