Dear Friends,
It's been two months since the Piñata Anchor of Hope was tossed off the Mr. Shoe building.
Check out how much the garden has grown! (see attachment) Right now there are sunflowers, nastursiums, zinnias, coreopsis, forget-me-nots, verbena and lots of other flowers that I can't identify.
I want to thank all of the unkown people who have watered the garden and added their own plants during the last two months. Those of you who work downtown - please feel free to bring a jug of water and empty it into the watertower on your lunch break. There are water jugs for people to borrow at the tower.
In regards to fundraising: $2400 tax deductible donations have been recieved to date. The total budget for the project is $4500. So I am still fundraising and encourage all of you who have been meaning to make a donation to go ahead and send it to Play Matters, 2412 Huron St., Durham, NC 27707. There are still limited edition commemorative posters by Horse & Buggy available.
I want to thank all of you who have made generous contributions thus far BUT would like to highlight in particular, Kontek Systems, Downtown Durham Inc., Jennifer Garst and Larry Wood for giving $250 and beyond in support of the Piñata Garden of Hope. They are the "Rainmakers" and their generosity and commitment to the value of this project for the city of Durham is deeply appreciated.
There are some special benefits to being a "Rainmaker". If you or the company you work for are able to contribute $250 or more to the project not only will the contribution be recognized prominantly on the water tower sign but you will recieve a boquet of flowers from the garden AND I will personally facilitate a one hour paper-flower making workshop at your place of employment or special event. Please contact me at 919-599-7770 if you are interested or know someone who is.
Well that's all for now - I hope you will be able to stop by and see the garden for your self. It is really alive!
Peace,
Sherri Wood
