I know it's a Sunday night but it would be a shame to miss this.
Astralwerks recording artist The Golden Republic are touring for the
self-titled debut album. They are a great band with sounds that range
from "70's glam rock and 80's new wave to punk, garage and soul".
Aqueduct(Barsuk Records): Rolling Stone wrote: taste "from the Bee
Gees to the Geto Boyz -- Aqueduct's sound is lovelorn indie pop. "Yeah,
not too subtle, is it?" he admits. "But the songs aren't lovey-dovey so
much as cathartic love messes." Terry delivers his hopeless-romantic
lyrics in a deep, deadpan voice reminiscent of the Magnetic Fields'
Stephin Merritt, while a retro-synthesizer carries the simple melodies.
The occasional sample brings the drama, as in the EP's gem "As Close as
Your Girlfriend Is Far Away," which features the sound of a massive
cheering crowd."
Local act Iconic: from website
Emulating the basics from classic bands, iconic features a style all of
their own by blending a diverse style of British Rock (Buzzcocks,
Oasis, The Clash, and Razorlight) and American Rock (Replacements, The
Strokes, and Ryan Adams) to a new level of perfection. Iconic reminds
us that rock is primal, vibrant, and honest all at the same time. Their
music hits you straight and deep in a manner that rivals the guitless
and wishfull thoughts we all have.
