I will emerge from lurking long enough to third the "Unsatisfied," if
for no reason other than: while driving to work this morning, listening
to an old Replacements compilation tape someone made me, it came on and
I thought (really, today) "this might be the saddest song ever."
Also-
"Tom Traubert's Blues" by Tom Waits. More Matilda Waltzing.
"Sunday Morning Coming Down" by Kris Kristofferson/Johnny Cash. The
Crooked Fingers cover is pretty damned sad, too.

"Song to the Siren" by This Mortal Coil

Also, I second the Replacements' "Unsatisfied."

Recently: "Empty Cans" by The Streets has brought me
to tears.

And Johnny Cash can (OK, could) sing just about
anything and it's the saddest possible sound you've
heard...
