I'd be lying if I said I'm a big fan of The Daily
Show. It's way too damn fair and balanced for me. But
I did BitTorrent the clip and nearly blew my Cheetos
out my nose at Stewart's sheer chutzpah in bitch
slapping that bow tied fucker son of hot carl. Good
show, old chap. I also got a little irritated at how
Stewart shut down near the end like you say (some
reports I read made it sound like Stewart went postal
at the end, which I just don't understand). If
anything, when Carlson, who was obviously prepared for
the ambush with those Daily Show quotes (making me
wonder if the whole encounter was scripted), I would
have liked to have seen Stewart use that more as an
example of just what he was talking about. I mean, if
you're going to take the gloves off, just go ahead and
Jet Li the creep. Stewart must have realized that
himself with his "that went well" remark at the end.
Obviously, he thought he could go on that show and
engage Tucker Carlson in some reasoned examination of
what's happening to the media in this county, all the
while using ironic one-liners as his reasoning. As a
media star himself, I feel he should have known
better, and then he might not have deginerated into a
"you need to go to J-school, nyah nyah" blob.
Apparently he was extemporaniously shooting from hip,
which is kind of my problem with comedians as pundits.

But I am glad that someone who is so obviously
idolized by so many took his opportunity to at least
try to put that unhumble nitwit in his place. And I
did laugh when Conan spanked Bill O'Reilly last night.

I've been too lightly skimming the Sinclair thread to
notice if anyone saw yesterday about the Sinclair
whistle-blower who was fired. The way the other
networks are mining that as if to say their own
reporting is some shining example, or contrasting it
with Dan Rather, makes me wonder if the Sinclair
affair is also not just some distractive bait as well.
America is not above sacrificing some relatively small
group of shareholders in search of a bigger gains.

Note: I do not take these thoughts as serious
conspiracy theories. I just believe that they exist as
one of many possibilities, another possibility being
people are just that hapless.
