I am not a sushi lover, but my wife and father-in-law are sushi
connoisseurs, so I feel almost qualified to comment on this topic.
Yamazushi at Woodcroft was their favorite Durham sushi place for years, but
I am told that the quality of the sushi there may have slipped. Still, the
folks there have always been nice and it's a great atmosphere.

Now they both seem to like the (relatively) new sushi/noodle place in that
shopping center just south of where 54/40 meet - I don't remember the name
but I think that place was recommended in a previous thread on this
newsgroup (don't have time to search Google groups right now). Like the
place Ross suggested, neither of these are in or near downtown (and I
suppose technically the sushi/noodle place is over the line in Chapel Hill).

Good luck.

Chris

Dunno if it really counts as Durham (I mean, it's Durham, but it's not
downtown), but in the shopping center (the one with the Harris Teeter,
not the Kroger) at the intersection of Fayetteville & 54 there is a
pricey but pretty good place called Shiki Sushi.
