Duke has said to the press several times that $10M will NEVER happen and
that $1M-$2M is the most they will consider.

Duke has also proposed building a new performing arts center to replace Page
Auditorium on Central Campus (Erwin Rd) for the American Dance Festival,
committed as recently as a year ago.

Now the city is trying to strong-arm Duke into bankrolling this downtown
theater for ADF instead, at a cost to the public, when Duke would have paid
for a new theater on campus otherwise.

I've seen several people say that Duke is not
interested in this. But at the proposal meeting last
Tuesday and at the City Council meeting Monday night,
the dude from the city who looked like a basketball
coach said that Duke might still donate something like
10 million dollars.

So where does this information that Duke won't
participate come from?
