Some last minute news that I think are of great interest to everyone:

We are currently working very closely with the BBC in order to come up with
either
(a) a single licence for the creative archive and the CC-UK or
(b) a basic CC-Uk licence that will be compatible with the CC 2.0 and a BBC
CA licence that would be the CC-UK licence plus some modules that will serve
particular BBC purposes

I am working with the BBC people and the iCC people the last 5-6 days on this
new modified version of the CC-UK licence that I hope to post in the CC-UK
mailing list by the end of this week (the latest) for further comments.

This means that the licence that we have already developed with the CC-UK
mailing list will not be used for the launch today :-( Instead what we are
going to announce in the launch today is
(a) the date of the release of the final draft for comments (most probably
Wednesday but if not then definitely by the end of this week) on the US CC
website
(b) the date of the official launch of the licences after them having been
commented by the CC-UK mailing list and the CC-UK legal advisory group!

All the comments that have been made in relation to the previous draft of the
CC-UK have been taken into consideration for the BBC/ CC-UK licence, but the
wording has been substantially changed in order to reduce the size of the
licence.

I am sorry I cannot post the BBC/ CCUK draft right now but I have no
clearance from the BBC team as yet, so it needs to wait for a couple of days.

Will keep you posted
Prodromos

Subject: [Creative-friends] The BBC Creative Archive: current situation

1. The BBC is developing its own licence. It is very similar to the CC-UK
licence. There is ongoing discussion between them and CC-UK re. the licence
and certainly their work will feed back to CC-UK.

2. The BBC plan to commence a pilot of the Archive some time early in the new
year. The material this will contain is not yet finalized and is heavily
dependent on how many of the rights they are able to clear.

3. All parties want to ensure that once the Archive is available it is known
about and used. This will provide important feedback and also support the case
for the public benefits of the archive. To this end identifying and notifying
groups, such as teachers, who might not know about the archive's release but
would be particularly interested would be a worthwhile activity.

4. DCMS has now received testimony from various groups associated with Friends
of the Creative Domain. These are all posted on the wiki at:
http://www.okfn.org/fcd/wiki
Please continue to write as the more submissions we have to the DCMS on this
issue the better (if you should want any assistance with drafting please just
email me).

Regards,

Rufus
