Kia ora koutou

I notice nobody has weighed in on this so I'll give my views, although I'm not sure I'll make it to NetHui in July. I'm all for having a meetup on the arts sector. Although we have had some solid support for the spirit of CC from the likes of the Creative Freedom Foundation, and PledgeMe, I haven't seen anything like the uptake in Aotearoa among musicians, film-makers etc that I've seen in other jurisdictions. Getting a few high profile cultural icons to champion CC could be fantastic for increasing general awareness and adoption. A meetup focussed on the needs and concerns of people working in the arts/ cultural sectors could be a good start.

Nethui is, once again, on the (somewhat distant) horizon. I’ve expressed, once again, CCANZ’s interest in hosting a community meet-up. This will likely be after the main events on July 8 or 9, approximately 6-7pm.

It’s still very early, though it‘s a good time to consider what the topic of conversation might be. A few obvious options:

a)      Creative Commons and education (encapsulating OERs; a good chance for teachers to meet and discuss CC);

b)      Creative Commons and culture (encapsulating the GLAMs, the culture & heritage sector more broadly and artists);

c)       Creative Commons and open research (encapsulating open access and tertiary education policies); or,

d)      A more general discussion about Creative Commons ANZ and where we go from here.

My instinct is for b), as we’ve covered a) and c) in earlier Nethuis. However, momentum is building for all three sectors, so there’ll be plenty to say about each.

We could feasibly organise a few d)s at a local establishment sometime during the week.

Thoughts?
