Kia ora koutou

This is great news! CC Aotearoa has now hit the mainstream in the
realm of the public service.

There are other great projects underway to ensure the free
availability of publicly-funded science data and reports. Since CC
only applies to things that can be copyrighted, there are ongoing
discussions among the folks working on the 'science commons' about how
to apply the equivalent of a free license to datasets, as well as
heaps of technical work on how to store, transmit and reuse the data
for the common good.

Along the same lines, I think there is an argument that digital copies
of artwork funded by Creative NZ and other public arts funding bodies
should be available to the public under a libre license. As you saw
from my begging post about GiveALitte.com, I have also been checking
out some models for crowdsourcing investment or 'micro-patronage',
where many small donations can fund the creation of work that can then
be dedicated to the public good, and its output released under libre
licenses.

Tonight I blogged about the success of the 'Humble Indie Bundle', a
bunch of computer games sold under a pay-what-you-want model, and in
some cases the source code of the game engine has been released under
GPL:

I have also started a forum topic on the CC Aotearoa site to explore
models like this further:

Nga mihi nui ki a koutou
