Gregor,

As it currently stands, I keep a strict copyright on all my work and carefully license it to my clients—I have to, it's how I make my living. If the Creative Commons NonCommercial were airtight enough to prohibit anybody from making money off my work without further licensing, but allow people to share it personally, have it as their desktop background, and such, I could license everything under CC-BY-NC and still put a roof over my head and bread on the table, while contributing to semi-open culture.

Thanks,
Kerrick Long

I have another serious question: Why is a non-profit license nice? It's
not obvious to me, and it doesn't fit with the ideals of free culture as
I understand them.

Why should it matter whether culture, freely shared to all recipients
under non-discriminatory terms and permitting further sharing the same
way, is making a profit? That strikes me as something to be celebrated,
rather than denied through a license clause.
