Fine, but by choosing the NC option you are pretty much removing an
relationship to Free or Open Source Software.

Also, note, even in cases where a GPL software author has support and
training
to sell, there is nothing stopping someone with better funding and
connections from selling competing support and training based around the same
piece of software.

You can always put in trademarks / logos and not allow them to be used
without
payment. (I am personally going to be exploring some of the possibilities in
this area.)

They can still do this to you even if they can't sell your works and can't
make a profit. They could make their money from taxi rides down to the local
copy shop where your book gets printed. (OK a way out there example, but
think of all the possibilities where your book can get produced in an NC
manner.)

This is the time for experimenting. Do some of your stuff copyleft and some
with an NC license and see which ones do better. One thing with a copyleft
model is that cost of materials can go down.

BTW. I do somewhat put my money where my mouth is in this area:

I wrote a book for last year's NaNoWriMo and put it up under a BY-SA license:

http://www.ourmedia.org/node/111123
http://www.ourmedia.org/node/85937

and I have some software under the GPL:

http://zbcw.sourceforge.net/
http://code.google.com/p/drsoundwall/

Plus I hope to do another nano novel this year and release that under a BY-SA
license as well. I am probably going to try and raise sponsorship (patronage)
for the writing of this novel again this year, I did in 2005 but didn't in
2005. I am probably going to suggest a per word amount of sponsorship with
the money only being due if I pass the 50,000 word mark needed to win the
contest.

There is nothing preventing anyone from seeking advance funding to produce
copyleft works.
