It depends upon the rules you agreed to with the museum when you took the
photographs. Many simply allow photographs for your own personal use,
requiring a fee for more rights. Others allow more.
I can't recall what the policy was at the Smithsonian, but the Smithsonian
Photographic Services may be able to advise you (http://photo2.si.edu/)
and answer your questions.
