Opera 10.63 - 50MB in puppy
- 41MB in XP
Opera 11.01 - 82MB in puppy
- 46MB in XP

The XP figures go way up over time - Opera 10 to 100MB, Opera 11 105MB.
Even fiddling with settings and turning off extensions. Perhaps Opera is caching things and would use less RAM if there were less.
Opera 10 and 11 in linux probably use more than listed above, eventually.

Seamonkey 2.0.13 - 200MB in puppy (to start)
- 55MB in XP

Seamonkey use stays around 72MB in XP after a while, far less than in linux.

Firefox 4 - 230-317MB in puppy
- 38MB in XP (I checked several times)

The 38MB is only to start with. It eventually rises to 72MB. I set it not to save history and it went down to 63MB. Also much less than in linux.

Slightly altered conclusions:

If you have low memory, and need a recent browser, you should probably avoid Opera 10 and 11 (but perhaps they will use less RAM if there is less RAM). Seamonkey 2 and Firefox 4 (try also 3) will fit into 128MB with MicroXP (50MB XP, 72MB browser) but are hopeless in Pulp Linux without at least double that (14MB Pulp, 200-300MB browser).

MicroXP takes 15 minutes to install (not counting adding defrag, SMplayer, and browsers).

Opera 9 still works at most websites that use javascript.
Seamonkey and Firefox (even older version) work at more sites.
