Yes I can. But I would rather not - my user account owns about 30 GB
of assorted directories, some in /home/* but most of it elsewhere.
I can also change the machine date (in DOS) and my user account then
still works, but this is NOT the long-term solution.
I find that root using passwd does not seem to work, or I am not
using it correctly. I am being very cautious at the moment - I do not
want to mangle or destroy what currently belongs to my "user".
