Are you sure your samba process is alive?
I think the Slackware samba package is designed
to activate samba via inetd. If that is the
case, you will need inetd and you will probably
need to edit the inetd configuration files.
inetd is part of the Slackware network foundation
package (tcpip1). It waits for incoming requests
for service and then activates the appropriate
server (telnetd, ftpd, samba, whatever). inetd
requires complicated configuration (including
the authentication files).
BL3 is designed to be a client, not a server.
It does not provide an appropriate foundation
to run servers. Yes, it is possible to modify
BL3 to run servers, but it will be difficult.
If you want to run servers, I recommend you use
BL2, Slackware or a completely different version
of Linux. Unlike BL3, most Linux distributions
have a foundation suitable for running servers.
Cheers,
Steven
