The only reason I think that I need libcursesso.3.4 is
because that is what emacs complains about when I
try to run it.

I didn't get them from slackware. I got them from OpenXM.
Where is the slackware repository?

The libncurses in Slackware 4.0 is version 1.9.9
Why do you need 3.4 ?

If you didn't get them from Slackware 4.0, then
they probably aren't compatible with the BL3 library.
