The svgalib problem has nothing to do with partitioning, it is something wrong with the software and I contacted the maintainer again for help. He helped me get it to compile with gcc 2.95.3 in the first place but apparently only one driver ever really got compiled in (and even that got messed up along the way but I can replace it with one that works). This is an alpha version. The older one used by David Moberg still works.
So don't use my svgalib package except for riva cards unless you just want VGA support (vgalib).

Does LILO need to have its image file in the first gigabyte?
