I decided to dial as root rather than user because dialing as user would require giving user access to the ISP login and password and anyone who got into the user account would therefore breach security.

cp -a * and cp -a .* from /root to /home/user

chown user * and chown user .* to change permissions on all the directories and subdirectories in /home/user including .ssh

After adding the passwd.tgz program for BL3, I found that BL3 no longer automatically goes into X the way it was set up to do for vt1. And it also goes to /root (like BL2).

How might I boot into X directly, and also su user?
(login user does not work for opera, it can't open X.)

I have opera, links, and lynx working now from the icewm menu.
chmod 666 /dev/null for opera

I can try to train the user to type 'lin' (as instructed by autoexec.bat) and then startx and then su user. And then exit and reboot.

38MB of linux without Abiword. They want MS Office Suite to practice for a job (121MB 1997 edition, typical installation) on the rest of the 500MB drive. The video driver for the i810 from Intel, for Win9x, is 8MB download. I put in a Cirrus PCI card instead. 'New unused' 900Mhz eMachine, have to hit F1 every time you boot, won't do 1024 resolution 15 or 16-bit in Windows (black screen) or Linux (wrong colors), and himem.sys prevents Xvesa but they don't want DOS anyway. Replaced PSU, fd and hd. Works like a charm in BL3 at 800x600. Windows crashes occasionally.
