Actually, that "shutdown" command is usually is just a frontend to "halt",
"reboot" and "init 0" or "init 6. You can turn off BL by issuing "halt"
and reboot it by issuing "reboot"

According to entries in inittab, it first turns off swap, then umounts
all filesystems, then halts or reboots the system. So, answering your
question: NO, we don't have to do all that manually ;-)
