slow your modems connect speeds down if the lines are wet... the modem
is starting out fast and falling back rather than starting slow and
speeding up.... (the latter is more stable)
try using curl first before we try getting into this...

dont use kermits scripts or dialer... just talk to the modem (serial
port) directly... or is this not possible? (it was in the dos version)
try to make kermit think there isnt a modem there.... or... install
minicom...

2k/s would give TCP/IP some headroom... tho i doubt you are getting
31200 upload speeds... remember i said this was a very rough idea....
its not an absolute...

modem is falling back to lower(more stable) speeds...

with the bandwidth throttle.. yes... (read: more than likely but not a
100% garantee)

i think i downloaded the source at xiph.org but i cant remember....
(tis been a while)

you can feed it random numbers manually as well... but thats a
different story...

to upload a file to an FTP server using curl and its bandwidth
throttle set at 2k/s (kilobytes/s)...
curl -T file_to.upload --limit-rate 2k -u username:password
ftp://server.you.want.to.upload.to
you can also use numbers like 1.5k or 1.6k ... to try to squeeze as
much through as possible while keeping things stable if 2k is too
fast...
you can also use curl to play shoutcast streams... but we wont get
into that just yet... ;)

not if you want to compile/use something else that uses/needs it...
like ogg123...
