I tried Abiword in BL3 (don't have xset yet in BL2 to set it up
with) and it displays the file perfectly on screen but I don't have
BL3 set up to print ps files. So I saved as html. When I try to
view with lynx I get a lot of garbage.

Why didn't you print it to a PS file? You don't need lpr to do that,
just Abiword.

I tried to Save As. I have not used Abiword, just tested it briefly. I will look at the Print feature some time, but plain wvware is a lot more efficient for just doing conversions. I don't need a wordprocessor, I have one (DOS WP5.1, pure text, no mouse).

I am about to try DOS wvare next, and will then resign myself to
translating from the screen between two computers. Nice to have
Abiword, which is supposedly based on wvware. I wonder why it can
display images but not save them as images. Maybe rtf?

I tried inserting an image in a document, then I right-clicked on the
image and chose Save Image As... Does it handle Word files differently?

I did not see Save Image As - I saw Save As in the File menu. (I am in DOS right now and cannot check on this). I can try Save Image As with a mouse some time. I am not familiar with graphical wordprocessors. I type text, not pictures or colors.

Abiword just stopped working as soon as I changed the file name to .rtf
(won't let me choose to save it as rtf) and now it refuses to load
from rxvt in X. Or from the menu. And when I try to exit X
(Ctl-Alt-Del) I get a blank blue screen with a few green stripes at
the top. Fun with Xvesa again.

I also discovered that BL3 had put copies of most directories (not /usr) into e:\ complete with files, when it crashed. They won't delete with DOS deltree.

The person who sent these says the other translators don't complain about .doc files - they are just WORD documents. At least she scanned as Line Drawing. She offered me jpegs instead.
