I have not (yet) installed gnumeric on BL3. But I
have installed gnumeric on BL2 (using the appropriate
Slackware package). gnumeric has *many* dependencies
and I had to add a lot of libraries to get it to work.

Here is the procedure for installing any package
from Slackware 4.0 (on BL3)

After installing the package, find the executable(s).
--------------------------
which [name of executable]
--------------------------

Go to that directory and do:
------------------------
ldd [name of executable]
------------------------

Make note of any missing library and search
/slakware/MANIFEST.gz for that library. Scroll
up to find the name of the package that library
is in. Install that package. Repeat until ldd
shows no missing libraries.

That is the general procedure; however, for X
applications (like gnumeric) there is an additional
issue. Xvesa (the mini Xserver used in BL3) does
not provide the environment that some X applications
expect. I don't know why. That means some X packages
will not work with Xvesa. gnumeric is probably one
of those. To avoid the Xvesa issue, install a full-
blown Xserver from Slackware 4.0 (the procedure is
similar to the X installation instructions in BL1).
That will give you an X environment that should work
with any X package from Slackware 4.0.

Steven
