No. It took several weeks of trial and error to get
a version that worked. It was a very frustrating
experience. For some reason, which I still do not
understand, every version I compiled refused to accept
keyboard input (everything else appeared to be working).
I searched high and low for the cause without success.
I tried six different versions of AbiWord (old and new)
and different versions of GTK. But the problem persisted.
I searched the internet for a solution, and all I found
was other people with exactly the the same problem (and
nobody with a solution).

I was on the verge of giving up when (finally!) I got
something that worked. And that's the version we are
using.

My struggle to compile AbiWord was perhaps the most
frustration I have ever experienced in Linux. I am
not keen to go there again. Besides, I deleted my
working files and do not remember precisely what I
did to get it to work.

It might be possible to run the BL2 HD installation
routine using packages from Slackware 9.1 (instead
of 7.1). Some of the package names will probably
be (slightly) different, but you might be able to
figure it out (and edit the installation script
accordingly). In addition to the usual packages
for BL2, you would need to install the glibc runtime
package from Slackware 9.1 (the default glibc in
BL2 needs to be overwritten by the Slackware 9.1
version).

Alternatively, you might try installing (installpkg)
the glibc runtime package from Slackware 9.1 on an
existing BL2 installation. I know this works with
the glibc runtime from Slackware 8.1, but I've never
tried the glibc package from 9.1.

Cheers,
Steven
