  • Subject: [BL] Re-installing, boot loader question

I have chosen to try and re-install BL3 onto my laptop
(I may consider BL2 if this becomes more of a
headache). I have just finished deleting the
partitions that I used for Grey Cat Linux (since it
installs on a dos partition, is it really linux?) and
finished installing BL3 onto the hard drive. However,
I can not get the boot loader to work. This was why I
just chose to install Grey Cat as a temporary fix. I
hit ctrl at lilo and type hd root=/dev/hda1 then at
the command promt I type lilo -v and it gives me a
message that it has installed and mergered lilo but
when I attempt to boot the computer without the boot
disk, nothing happens. I can take the laptop and
remove the hard drive and redo the process if need be
to collect more information if needed, if not needed,
can somebody please tell me what I did wrong?

My partitions are as follows:

hda1 (bootable) start cyl 1 end cyl 816
hda2 (swap) start 817 end 1016

Yes, there is no hda3. I merely want to use the laptop
for less than critical functions where I will not need
a floppy drive (the floppy drive on the laptop is
broken and I have to install BL3, or anything else for
that matter, by disconnecting the hard drives from my
tower and hooking up the laptop's hard drive in its
place). Any ideas?

Pax,
Christopher
