ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/laser/
I found (from 1988/89): hpril.zip - Russian soft font
and two printer font editors for laserjet: gof10.zip and fntedt57.zip

And at /msdos/undefined/lqchr121.zip to edit Epson printer fonts.
/msdos/printer not /undefined, sorry.

I have put all four files into downfont.zip at
keesan.freeshell.org with a discussion and link at
keesan.freeshell.org/software.htm

I tried to upload and print a Cyrillic font from hpril.zip using gof10.zip (they use the same .sfp format) but could not get it to print on my Deskjet 660 so maybe it is not entirely laserjet compatible though the gs ljet driver prints on the 500 and 600 deskjet series. I will try some day on the Laserjpet IIP emulating Brother.

fnted57.zip - has some other format.

lqchr121.zip is a nice program for designing draft and letter quality fonts for Epson LQ 24 type printers. Maybe one could use the hpril Cyrillic font as a model to make an Epson font.

The hpril fonts are in English alphabetical order - ABCDE not ABVGD.

I suggest using these all on a VGA monitor. gof (go_font) requires it and the other two crashed on my MGA monitor (two-monitor setup may have confused them). lqchr says it should work on MGA.

Maybe some day I will find the time to design Cyrillic printer fonts for Epson and HP older laser printers to go with the VGA screen fonts we designed (see my site, same link). My partner who does not read Cyrillic had fun using the screen font editing program and we even designed our own Euro character for cp1251.

A friend with WinXP is trying to get it to work with an HP Laserjet 6L that prints 600x600, uses Chris's fonts for the Laserjet 3 and later, and came with DOS drivers. I am jealous.

It might be simplest to start by making an Epson charset for cp852 but the little Epson font editor came without the two promised standard fonts to modify. Maybe I can get hold of the author, or another copy of this lqchr. Boy will he be surprised to get a request for a program nearly 20 years old!
