No. The presence of copro emulation in the kernel
should have no effect. The kernel only activates
emulation when it detects no copro is present.
I suggest you try the bare.i kernel and see if
the same thing happens: /kernels/bare.i/bzimage
(you'll need to edit boot.bat to change zimage
to bzimage).
