Thank you, Steven, I did some search for Linux notation software,
before, and went through these links, too. It is probably the same as
with word processing, may be even worse: If you want to do real work
in Linux you need even bigger hardware than in Windows. And the big
projects as TeX and Lilypond are designed for the latest Linux
distributions. Very funny is the warning on the Lilipond website
that you should not even try to compile it yourself...

IIRC, however, a version of Lilypond was included in Slackware
7.1 or 8.1. I will have to look at it.
