That is not correct. THe Xvesa in BL3 works with
earlier versions, too. For example, it works on
my S3 Trio64V+, which is vesa 1.2.

When I do the following on my Trio64V+

Xvesa -listmodes
----------------
it says "VBE version 1.2" and lists 17 resolutions
ranging from 320x200 to 1280x1024.
