It's as you guessed, I´m running a hd-installation of BasicLinux via
Loadlin.

Hey, and that's easy! Simply pass the desired vga-mode as a parameter to the
kernel, so a simple 'vga=3' at the end of the loadlin line gets me where I
want ;-).
I was a bit confused with all the Slackware keyboard & console packages, not
expecting that the kernel itself is taking care of that.

This was quick, very well.
