        Dears members of list:
Sometimes the grammar does not fully explain a particular word structure in Job and you should guess that there are several readings, the obvious and what is concealed, Ketub / Qere, legendums, kema, etc..
To me, the text can be seen as a solution to the censorship, cause otherwise, if the author speaks openly, the text would not be considered as valid for publication and wouldn´t see  light.  Let us assume that the author is a woman, and their book must be published with the permission of a group of men.
When I read Job, my habit of regarding retrograde legend in numismatics and  Psalms, leads me to ask whether the text says something to that effect.
I recognize that this is an unusual exercise approaching delirium and madness in searching for the meaning and reason.

fascinating!

The Turkana call their wadi "LAGA" , reversal of the liquid and guttural with dropped nasal.

Well, at first reading of the verse, my mind goes to volcanic activity.  Are you suggesting the rift valley?

How do you understand Job 28:5?

Thanks Isaac,

Do you mean other hints besides these I have mentioned?

I see hints in the story of Job that it takes place in East Africa, lending support to the termite theory (kudos to the other math professor.)

To me the circumstantial evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of a termite.

1)in v.19 the subject is a Mud House:
-anyone one who has live around mud houses knows that termites devour the inside wood of the structure inside about three years.
2)in v.20  "Between morning and evening they are broken in pieces" and
- mud houses often collapse in the middle of the night on unsuspecting victims. a common occurrence even today.
v.21 "Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them" parallels the imagery of a collapsing mud house.

3) the termites' bite is like fire, thus the probable origin of the name.
