Subject: [b-hebrew] art vs. science

Hello all:

a. countless permutations exist for assembling the billions of parts that
comprised the moon mission. but only one narrow, precise, assembly of those
parts yielded a correct & successful mission.

b. likewise, numerous different & competing translations of the masoretic
text exist. but agreement as to one correct translation occurs not.

http://www.biblestudytools.com/cjb/proverbs/passage.aspx?q=proverbs+12:2-22

and is that the difference between art & science? the former allows the
consumer to choose whatever truth suits him. but the latter
imposes a single truth on the consumer.

Can it be? the art of the masoretic text teaches "choose whatever word
meanings suit you; and be happy;" whereas science instructs: "choose
carefully and wisely, lest you crash ... and burn."

the science of numbers encodes precision; but the art of language achieves
but approximation?

regards,
