Science, according to the definition I was taught at a secular university by
a professor who was anti-Christian and a missionary for evolution (he could
not let a single lecture go by without at least one attack against
Christianity), cannot deal with the past. The closest it can get to dealing
with the past is to deal with is the present status of artifacts that have
survived from the past.

As for proof from other sources …… long story, in short there has to be a
complete revolution in the accuracy of historical data which, absent of
major new discoveries, is very unlikely. Further you’d have to have a
satisfactory explanation as to why the archaeological data does not support
a 15th century BC Thurmose III.

What makes you think that Thera erupted in late 17th century BC? Radiometric
dating? Historical reference? Why couldn’t its major eruption have occurred
much later?
