- Subject: [b-hebrew] Verb Stems Confusion
- Date: Thu, 29 Jan 2009 16:22:33 -0500
I am in the process of re-learning my b-Hebrew grammar. And with the verbs stems I am quiet confused about a few things. My current goal is to be able to just translate the different forms.
I was taught that there are 7 stems. But I noticed that there are 24 different stem names!
I was able to find out that the same stem will go by different names, due to spelling issues.
Piel is also called polel, poel, palel, pilpel and pealal. Right? So if I have a word in poel form, I would translate it the same as I would if it was in piel form. Right?
Pual is also called polal, poal, and pulal. Right?
Hitpael is also called pitpalpel. Right?
Now there are a few I haven't been able to figure out:
qal passive, pilel, tifil, polpal, hotpaal, hishtafel, and nitpael.
Thanks in advance.
