Why do the Edomites (?DM) live in Edom (?DM)? Because
Edom (?DM ? Esau) asked for it (i.e. ?DM ? red stew)!
Badda bing!
What did 'DM s descendents inhert from him? 'DM! Badda
bang.
Did Easu ask for a bowl of stew or a nation? (Be careful
what you ask for, you just might get it.) Did his
descendents inhert his redness or a nation, or both?
Actually, it is pretty funny.
It is also an insult; one that works on two different
levels.
First, the land of Edom is named for a vulgar stew!
Second, why does the older, more well established nation of
the Edomites live in a poor, dry, hot land and the not in
the land of milk and honey as does the younger nation of
run-away Egyptian slaves? Because Israel (Jacob the
younger brother) had the right stuff to take the land and
Edom (Esau the older brother) did not did not have the
right stuff to keep it.
It is a political - historical metaphor and well as a pun.
