I don't know if this is too helpful, but in the study that originally
inspired my question the method of iron being in iron was through
nails and/or joints (cp. 1 Chron. 29:2 and 1 Chron. 22:3). When I
think of the possibility of this proverb saying 'iron in iron' I
imagine an metal peg fitting flush in an metal block (sort of like a
rivet); the two pieces of metal are basically one now.
