Hi all,
Does anyone think that there might be a connection between the words $pxh
(shifxah - a female slave or "handmaiden", more or less the same as "amah")
and m$pxh (mishpaxah - an extended family, clan or phratry)? What is know
about the etymology of the two words?
Thanks,
Yigal

According to Emanuel Tov's Introduction to Textual Criticism (Hebrew), p. 47:
A few instances of Qere were marked in the Massorah as "yathir" (usually as
"yathir y'" or "yathir w'"), that is, in reading (Qere), one should
ignore the yod
or waw (which are "extra" - "yathir")
