The Name Satan, By Daniel E. Gershenson
Zeitschrift fur die Alttestamentliche Wissenschaft 2002 - 114 - 3, 443-445
" ...There is a strong possibility that the name Satan is of Greek origin. Since that is so,
then its etymology will be Greek and will be »Titan«, parallelling the known etymology of
the name Tityrus from the form Satyrus. This etymology, like that of Satan, is from the con-servative
area of religion. The Satyrs and Satan are similarly portrayed in art".
